Welcome to The Laura And Wagner Foundation ABLED Site
This site is being developed for blind and low-vision visitors and others who use screen reading software to make selected content from the main Laura and Wagner Foundation MediaCenter site more ABLED. This initiative is a work-in-progress and we are soliciting donations to help underwrite the cost of the effort. It is part of a larger initiative to make it easier for persons with vision or mobility impairments to enjoy a better quality of life by providing hardware, software and other 'enabled' content, products and services that make communication, navigation and transactions more accessible , convenient and easier.
Our latest upgrade has been 'ABLED', in part, by a donation from the Children Welfare Foundation of Curaçao with thanks to Freddy Berends and Jacques Visser.
As this effort evolves, we will be adding additional audio and descriptive photo and video components to enhance the user experience for 'low or no' vision users, enlargeable type, as well as versions of the content in other languages. But we need your help to do it.
If you would like to make a financial contribution to help support this effort, you can email Donations@LauraAndWagner.com or link to our main site here or call us at +599-9-660-4411. You can also contribute on-line by credit card via PayPal here.
About The FoundationThe Laura And Wagner Foundation (LWF) is a Curaçao-based non-profit NGO (Non-Governmental organization) founded by Laura de Haseth Meddens in February of 2008. It is registered with the KVK (the local Chamber of Commerce) and is regulated by government legislated Statutes.
The Foundation serves as an advocate for the rights of disabled persons in Curaçao, the other islands in the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba, as well as in the Netherlands. Laura's sight was damaged twice because of medical negligence, so as well as working to raise awareness about disability and health issues, she serves as an advocate for patients' rights. Laura was born to Beatrice and Leo Meddens on the island of Curaçao in the Netherlands Antilles (formerly known as the Dutch West Indies) about 35 miles off the northern coast of Venezuela in the Caribbean Sea. To read more about her, click here.
About WagnerWagner is Laura's guide dog trained by The Seeing Eye in Morristown, New Jersey in the United States. They have been a team since late 2006, and have been busy ever since 'opening eyes and opening doors' to raise awareness about the needs of persons with disabilities. Read more about Wagner here.
The earliest initiative of the Foundation was to launch an awareness campaign about the role of guide and assistance dogs for people who don't see, hear or walk as well as the rest of us, and to start a petition to gather public support for legislation that would allow these guide and assistance dogs into all the public places non-disabled people go.
